Funerals

It is strange why death can be an immensely bonding experience – the grief can be so isolating, yet it brings people together in an attempt to make sense of it. People attempt to put themselves in your shoes and understand it, as if it were they who are suffering. Yet we all digest and process grief differently. While death itself has become so taboo in 21st Century society, a funeral is frequently seen to be the formal expression of this compassion.

A respectful funeral makes us pause and think about life and what is important. It allows us to outpour our grief and regret and rejoice in our memories. It gives us an occasion for honour and respect, doing so in an environment of community and love, where those who are suffering the most will find comfort, support and beginning of healing. A funeral offers a bridge between all of these emotions and feelings.

Those coping with bereavement are not always fully aware of many of the funeral choices available. More often they gratefully accept whatever suggestions are made, not fully understanding that they could have done it differently until afterwards. There are a variety of different types of funeral service available, from the more traditional to woodland burials and memorials. I am available to work around your wishes and can discuss the options with you.

In today's modern world, many people are developing their own ideas and philosophies on life and religion, and therefore neither a religious nor atheist funeral particularly reflects their personal beliefs about both life and death. As a multi faith celebrant, I will tailor make a ceremony which can reflect any or no religious beliefs and one that will be as unique as the individuals who’s life you are honouring. I will spend time with family and friends and construct a ceremony that marks this inevitable yet unifying rite of passage.

I will accompany a grieving family kindly and skilfully, listen carefully to what you want and will write an accurate and beautiful funeral ceremony with heart and soul, and deliver this with warmth and calm reassurance.
